Documentary Wedding Photography



Documentary wedding photography has a few names, but one main purpose. Also known as reportage wedding photography or wedding photojournalism, it is all about photographing a wedding day as it unfolds naturally, without interference or influence. At the heart of it, documentary wedding photography is rooted in storytelling. It’s not about creating or 'staging' moments, but observing, anticipating and recognising them. I'll never ask you to perform or repeat things for the camera. Instead, I allow events to unfold naturally and respond to what’s there in front of me. Not only does this make for real, more meaningful and emotional photos, but it also has a big impact on the way you get to experience your day. Rather than being pulled away from the action for various staged or posed photos, you'll spend your day right in the mix with your favourite people, and be present for every hug, laugh and bad dance move!

My Award-winning work has been described as immersive, emotional and authentic, because of my relaxed, natural approach and the fact I make my photos from right in the mix, so you and your loved ones can look back at some incredible moments from the perspective of someone who was there when it was all happening. My approach is unobtrusive and observant, always focusing on and prioritising real moments. For the majority of the day, I'm working quietly in the background, paying attention to what’s happening and anticipating those little fleeting moments of gold. The emphasis is always on people, connection, relationships, and the atmosphere, basically all the things that give the day its meaning. From the early moments of prep through to the energy of the evening, the aim is to document the day honestly and as it was experienced.
